Why You Feel Cold All The Time?

Do You Always Feel Cold? This Breakfast Mistake Could Be the Cause

Do you often have cold hands and feet, or feel chilly no matter how many layers you wear? If so, your breakfast might be the cause. Many people unknowingly start their day with foods that cool the body instead of warming it up. According to Ayurveda, the ancient system of holistic health, your morning choices play a crucial role in maintaining internal balance and warmth.

The Cold Breakfast Mistake You Need to Avoid

One of the biggest mistakes people make is consuming cold smoothies, cold yogurt, or cool juices in the morning. While these might seem like healthy choices, they actually slow down digestion and increase Vata energy, which is associated with cold, digestive issues, and cracky joints.

When Vata becomes imbalanced, it can lead to:

  • Feeling cold all the time
  • Constipation and bloating
  • Dry skin and cracking joints
  • Restlessness and anxiety
  • Low energy levels

This is especially problematic in colder climates or during winter when your body naturally needs warmth to function optimally. So skip that cold morning smoothie, cool juices and cold yoghurt in the colder months.

How to Keep Your Body Warm and Balanced

The good news is that you can quickly shift your body into a warmer, more balanced state with simple changes to your morning routine. Here’s what to do:

1. Choose Warm, Nourishing Breakfasts

Instead of cold foods, opt for warming, easy-to-digest meals like:

  • Oatmeal with cinnamon and nuts
  • Stewed apples or pears
  • Warm herbal teas like ginger or cinnamon tea
  • Scrambled eggs or omelette

2. Avoid Cold Drinks in the Morning

Start your day with warm water or room temperature water, herbal tea instead of iced coffee or smoothies. This helps stimulate digestion and keeps your digestion healthy and the internal fire (Agni) strong.

3. Incorporate Warming Spices

Ayurveda recommends spices like ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and black pepper to improve circulation and warmth in the body. You can add these to your tea, porridge, or even soups, stews and rice.

4. Stay Warm with Lifestyle Adjustments

Beyond diet, you can also maintain warmth by:

  • Dressing in warm layers, especially covering your neck and feet.
  • Doing self-massage (Abhyanga) with warming oils like sesame or almond oil.
  • Practicing gentle morning movement like yoga, walking or stretching to stimulate circulation.
